Patient Representation
Patients and advocates are equal partners in the REiNS International Collaboration. Their voices shape every recommendation we make.
Why Patient Involvement Matters
The REiNS collaboration was built on the principle that those who live with neurofibromatosis must be central to the design of clinical trials that study it. Patient representatives have been members of every REiNS working group since the collaboration's founding in 2011.
Their contributions ensure that the outcome measures we recommend are not only scientifically rigorous but also meaningful and relevant to patients' daily lives.
Patient Representatives Working Group
One of the ten REiNS working groups is dedicated entirely to patient representation. This group coordinates the integration of patient perspectives across all other working groups and develops guidelines for patient engagement in NF clinical trials.
How Patients Contribute
Participate in Working Groups
Patient representatives are full members of all ten REiNS working groups, contributing lived experience to outcome measure development.
Shape Research Priorities
Patients and advocacy groups help identify the outcomes that matter most to the NF community, ensuring trials measure what is meaningful.
Review Publications
Patient co-authors contribute to REiNS publications, lending a patient perspective to scientific recommendations.
Attend Biannual Meetings
Representatives attend in-person meetings twice yearly to ensure patient voices are present in all consensus-building discussions.
Partner Organizations
The NF Collective is a group of organizations dedicated to improving the lives of NF patients and their families by providing accurate and reliable information about NF resources and caregivers. The first national NF organization was started in 1978. Since that time, a number of organizations, many of them involved with this collective, have been created to address various needs within the NF community. Each group has specific focus areas but all share the common goal of curing NF. Recognizing a critical need for NF families to find reliable NF care, the member organizations of the NF Collective joined forces to begin to provide a single, reliable, updated resource for NF.
The NF Registry helps connect patient experience to scientific progress. When you join, you complete a brief survey about your health and experiences once per year. This information provides researchers with a clearer picture of NF and guides new studies and potential treatments. The NF Registry is an online registry for people with all types of NF.
